The Program
What is meant by “The Program”? How do we view it? How is it to be used? The Women for Sobriety New Life Program is comprised of 13 acceptance statements that, when accepted and used, will provide each woman with a new way of life through a new way of thinking.
Getting Back To The Real World
So many times when I am speaking about the time when I got sober and started living again, it sounds as if I did this overnight.
Of course, all of you know that our recovery does not happen that quickly. Recovery is almost a lifetime project. Getting sober is just a beginning.
Roadmaps For Your Life
Suppose you were going on a trip several thousand miles away from where you presently live. Would you ever start out on that trip without a roadmap? Yet of all the persons reading this article right now perhaps only a handful have a roadmap for their lives…
Wanting to Belong
We just felt like we would burst … that sobriety was now ours forever. We couldn’t imagine why we hadn’t stopped drinking before. It was so easy. And then, all of a sudden, it’s not so easy anymore. We begin to feel restless and we begin to feel out of place.
Dealing With The Confusions Of Early Sobriety
For some very crazy and very human reason, we are under the delusion that when we quit drinking, everything in our life will be wonderful. When it isn’t we begin to think we did something wrong. Or we wonder if it’s really worth it, this life of sobriety.
But why isn’t everything wonderful?
Understanding Relapse
At a recent workshop we discussed a ‘slip’ versus relapse and I mentioned how much I dislike the use of the word ‘slip’.
Almost all agreed that this word is a very poor choice of a word for something so serious and a better word was suggested – lapse. This better describes the serious condition we are talking about and trying to deal with. And RELAPSE indicates a condition of a much longer duration.
The Hungering Heart
It is possible to educate ourselves in “methods” that help us with living and overcoming and, finally, in triumphing.
Meditation
Meditation is part of the recovery process used in the WFS “New Life” Program. It is, in fact, an integral part of the program because it provides that part of our recovery that helps us to center ourselves and our place in the scheme of things.
Self-Esteem
In the last ten years, it has been discovered that self-esteem is the key to well-being. But we knew that, didn’t we?
I guess if anyone ever asked what is the key to recovery, the answer most certainly would be the degree of self-esteem we enjoy. There is just no way we can stay sober unless we have some good feelings about ourselves.
Sobriety or Recovery
To have a fulfilling life requires two stages. The first stage is to overcome drinking. This is a period of sobriety. While it is possible to stop at this stage, it does not produce a fulfilling life.
Going beyond the First Statement, going beyond just the maintenance of sobriety, is the beginning of your pursuit of a full recovery.
